NUTRIFY

Designing a user-focused wellness app for healthy eating habits within young professionals.

As wellness apps continue to rise in popularity, maintaining a consistent health routine can be overwhelming without clear guidance. Nutrify provides personalized insights into nutrition habits, and sends timely reminders for meal planning helping users achieve their wellness goals efficiently.

OVerview

Typography often lives between two worlds: timeless tradition and innovative experimentation. Type Specimen explores how to push the limits of type design while preserving legibility and communication. The goal was to create a system that harmonizes classic letterforms with experimental transformations, proving that type can evolve in unexpected ways without losing its functional core.

PROBLEM

Users struggle to track their nutrition and habits leading to missed wellness goals and inconsistent progress

Maintaining a balanced and nutritious lifestyle is challenging for many individuals, often due to busy schedules, limited access to personalized guidance, and difficulties in consistently tracking dietary habits.

Without clear insights into their unique nutritional needs or tools to help plan meals, users frequently feel overwhelmed and frustrated, leading to missed wellness goals and unsustainable progress. A centralized platform offering tailored recommendations, actionable insights, and timely reminders could help users overcome these challenges and maintain a healthier lifestyle.

SOLUTIONS

So what now?

The proposed app offers personalized nutritional guidance, helping students achieve their health goals through meal tracking, educational resources, and actionable steps. By addressing key concerns like accessibility, time management, and knowledge gaps, this app aims to empower college students to develop healthier eating habits and routines.

Through the Nutrify app project, I gained valuable experience in designing user-friendly interfaces that promote engagement and accessibility. I learned how to effectively integrate features like daily intake tracking, calendar summaries, and educational resources to enhance the user experience. This project also strengthened my skills in iterative design, accessibility compliance, and creating cohesive visual identities.

GOAL

Help users make informed decisions and build sustainable habits to achieve their health goals

When users aim to improve their wellness, they need straightforward and accessible tools to guide their journey. To support this, I implemented these three core features in Nutrify:

1

EDUCATION

Provides users with bite-sized nutritional advice and personalized recommendations to make informed choices about their health and wellness.

2

DAILY TRACKING

Enables users to log meals, hydration, and activity easily, offering real-time insights to help maintain consistency and reach their goals.

3

CALENDAR

Organizes meal plans, reminders, and wellness activities in a clear, visual format, keeping users on track with their health routines.

RESEARCH

Why don’t young adults adopt and sustain healthier eating habits?

In order to answer this questions, we decided to go with an interview process. Through this process, we wanted to conducted user research to identify the common pain points and user needs. With over 10 user interviews, it helped us gather more data to get down to the core of the problem.

Young adult who lacks the motivation and tools to eat healthy

“I know that I do not have a healthy diet, I know I neglect my diet at large and don’t pay attention to it as much as I did. Not putting enough effort into cooking/leftovers. I wish I ate breakfast more because I feel much better. I dont eat it because I dont wanna get up and do it.”

College student that doesn’t know where to start with health

"I often feel unsure about what's unhealthy for me, and even when I know the nutritional facts, figuring out how to cook healthy meals feels overwhelming."

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Competitors don’t meet user needs.

Competitors often fail to meet user needs by offering generic meal plans and calorie tracking without addressing individual preferences or time constraints. They lack practical guidance for turning nutritional knowledge into actionable steps, leaving users feeling unsupported in building sustainable eating habits.

Users need an app that not only motivates them, but also educates them on the important of healthy eating.

Crafting the visual identity

With the growing interest in healthy nutrition among younger audiences, we aimed for a contemporary and engaging design approach for Nutrify. To achieve this, we chose a vibrant green color paired with a subtle gradient to evoke freshness and vitality. One highlight of the design is the custom illustration we created for the success page. When we couldn't find an illustration that aligned with Nutrify's theme, we crafted our own interpretation, incorporating creative elements like fresh produce in hand.

SOLUTIONS

Committing to the prototype

After multiple rounds of iteration, we finalized the design. We focused on creating a seamless and consistent transition between pages. To achieve this, we carefully worked on animating the transition to ensure smoothness and uniformity.

Tracking Daily Intake

Users can easily log their daily intake directly from the Home page. By navigating to the intake overview page, they can view a detailed list of their logged entries for the day. To finalize their logs, they simply need to confirm their entries, promoting consistency and accountability in tracking their nutrition.

Finding Educational Resources

Users can explore a dedicated section featuring educational resources, including healthy recipes and additional materials to support their nutritional goals. This section provides step-by-step guides, tips, and curated content to help users make informed choices and maintain a balanced diet.

Navigating Weekly and Monthly Summaries

Users can access a calendar view to see a weekly summary of their intake. This view provides a clear snapshot of their daily logs, allowing them to track patterns and progress over the week. By selecting specific days, users can dive into detailed entries, promoting better insight into their nutritional habits.
